What is email authentication?

Email authentication helps inbox providers verify the message's origin and protect users from phishing and spoofing. If the authentication isn’t set up properly, emails can land in the spam folder.

How to set up email authentication?

Setting up email authentication mostly means updating SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records in the DNS of your sender domain.

For this, you need access to DNS records of your sender domain (think Godaddy, Google Domains, etc.). Let’s say you are using subdomain.example.com to send emails; then, you will need access to the DNS records of example.com.

Following the below steps, you can easily set up email authentication.

  1. You need to get the TXT record for SPF, DKIM, and DMARC from your ESP or SMTP. This can be found in your ESP's sender settings or documentation pages. Listing down the records page of popular ESPs and clients - Mailchimp, Constant Contact, Gmail, ActiveCampaign, Klaviyo, ConvertKit.

  2. Go to the DNS page of your Domain Service Provider (like GoDaddy or Google Domains).

  3. Create a new TXT type of record for each authentication.

  4. Update the value of the TXT record with the value obtained from your ESP.

  5. Go back to your ESP and check if the records have been verified.

How to set up email authentication on Mailmodo?

If you have already added a sender domain on Mailmodo, then your authentication is complete, and you can mark this task as done.

If you want to add a new sender, then on your Mailmodo account, then follow the below steps.

  1. Go to settings and click on ‘Add sender’ and then add the required information.

  2. Go to the DNS page of your Domain Service Provider (like GoDaddy or Google Domains).

  3. Create a new TXT type of record for each authentication.

  4. Copy the required DKIM, DMARC, and bounce codes from Mailmodo and paste these in the respective fields as values. Follow this guide for more details.

  5. Go to Mailmodo sender settings and check the verification of records for the domain. It will look something like the one below.
